Public Safety

John believes that keeping people safe must always be a top priority. During his career, he has served Nevada in various positions, including as Chief of the Clark County Fire Department, a first responder, Clark County’s emergency manager, and a member of the Homeland Security Commission.

John has worked to develop responses and policies for acts of mass violence at the state and local levels and he assisted in writing legislation to defend families against those who target children. Residents of Clark County and Nevadans statewide are safer because of John's influence on our community, but he knows there is more to be done.

As a State Senator, John Steinbeck will fight to fund police officers, court systems, district attorneys, corrections officers, and our prison systems at the highest level to ensure the safety of our communities. He will support legislation that increases education to the public about the dangers of fentanyl and gives prosecutors the legal tools they need to prosecute drug dealers.

John has seen the efforts made by state and local governments to address Nevada’s growing homeless crisis be diminished because they lack proper coordination. He will support legislation to require local governments to create a comprehensive strategic plan and participate in the planning process as a condition for state funding to help ensure that resources are utilized most effectively.
